About the program

Since 2011, the Victorian Government has invested $55.8 million in the Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program (VLFP). It funds part-time Landcare facilitators who are employed directly by a range of organisations..

The Landcare facilitator's role is to enable the effective participation of Landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks, landholders and the wider community in natural resource management activities that protect, enhance and restore the natural environment, and improve sustainable land management.

Landcare facilitators also have a strong focus on building group and network capacity, to enable groups and networks to become sustainable.

The VLFP is one component of the Victorian Government’s Victorian Landcare Program.

2021-26 Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program

The 2021-26 VLFP commenced on 1 July 2021.

This program is the result of a 2019 independent review of the VLFP and the department's response to the recommendations.

The new VLFP includes strengthened governance and employment arrangements, updated activity-level and outcome reporting, training and other support tools for employers and facilitators.

Resources for Employer organisations and Landcare facilitators are on the Victorian Landcare Gateway.

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is undertaking a review of the current Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program. The review is considering strengths and challenges with current delivery, areas for improvement and future delivery options. Consultation is open from 31 January – 20 March 2024. To learn more about the review and have your say, visit Engage Victoria.
